New Look

Time for a refresh. A classic Christmas project.

The previous year I had already started reworking the content — now it was time to add some technical improvements as well.

It was also a good opportunity to move everything onto a new foundation, after a script-based attack had compromised one of the Joomla update components. Fortunately 1&1 caught it in time.

The site should of course be responsive, and the content needed an overhaul too. Here’s what’s new — besides updated content:

Sensebox

What is the Sensebox?

The Sensebox is an Arduino-based kit for capturing environmental data with IoT sensors. More information can be found at https://sensebox.de. The recorded data can be visualised on a map or analysed in other ways.

Our unit captures the following data:

  • Temperature
  • Humidity
  • Light intensity
  • UV intensity
  • Fine particulate matter (PM2.5 and PM10)

If you’d like to see the live data from our Sensebox, you can find it here: https://sensebox.curth.de

The annual Chaos Communication Congress offers a fascinating mix of IT, politics and social topics. This year in particular had some great insights into security vulnerabilities in AI models, robots and critical IT infrastructure.

Here is a small selection of interesting talks. Most are 45–60 minutes long. The full overview is available at: https://media.ccc.de/c/39c3. Some talks are also available on YouTube.

AI

Can AI models be hacked? Absolutely — Johann Rehberger demonstrates this in his talk:

Cool Shell

The days of boring green text on black terminal backgrounds are clearly over. This article explains how to make your shell look awesome — and it doesn’t matter whether you’re using Microsoft PowerShell, Mac or Linux.
